Grandma’s Chocolate Chip Cookies
Posted By FarmerJ on March 3, 2010
The best treasures someone can have, in my opinion, are memories ~ innocent childhood memories. I have many memories of Grandma Mary, but without a doubt, one of my favorite memories of Grandma is her delicious chocolate chip cookies. The chocolate chip cookies she made when I was a child, not the ones she made later, and yes, there was a big difference.
Grandma’s best chocolate chip cookies were those she made with magic. They weren’t fluffy, all full of air. No, they were flat, thinner than a wafer. The chocolate chips were like mountains protruding from the dough, not buried somewhere in all the fluff. And, they were soft. Melt in your mouth soft.
Mom would take us to Grandma’s house, and I’d head straight to the kitchen counter where the chubby chef cookie jar sat. Of course, Grandma was never one to deny her grandchildren a cookie. She wouldn’t just hand us a couple of cookies. Not Grandma. She would hand us the cookie jar. That, and a glass of cold milk.
And, because Grandma knew there wasn’t enough time to get our fill of those magic chocolate chip cookies during Mom’s visit, Grandma would always send us home with a bread bag full. You know, now that I think about it, I don’t recall ever getting those cookies at home. Hmmmmm. I wonder if they ended up in Dad’s lunch box?
I’ve been thinking about Grandma’s magic chocolate chip cookies a lot lately. I’ve been blessed with all of Grandma’s recipes, so I spent the evening last night perusing through them ~ on the hunt for the list of ingredients for those magic cookies. Well, I found it. At least I think I found it. But, I also found two more recipes for chocolate chip cookies. One recipe calls for butter flavored Crisco, and the other two call for butter. How do I know which one is the right one?!
There’s only one way to find out! Chocolate chip cookies, here we come! I’ll let you know the result. ♥

J. always go for butter. Butter and love make any cookie special!

Grandma did love to spoil us when we were little! I’ll have to ask Mom again which recipe she thinks Grandma used in the early years ~ those are the cookies I want. Grandma switched recipes as she got older, and those cookies were the fluffy kind…still very good, but just not the same.
