Peanut Butter Bunny Cookies…for Canines

Posted By on April 7, 2011

Mama thought she would be clever on Monday and make us canine girls some Easter cookies.  We were out of our treats and were having to stoop mighty low by eating that Mon-kay’s treats ~ that stinky Siamese had the gull to think that every time her treat bag opened, she deserved a treat, too!  Hmpf!  Go figure.

Anyway, like so many other things on the market these days, the price of treats is getting higher while the size of the package is getting smaller.  Not to mention all the artificial junk that’s included as ‘filler’ ~ I mean, who likes to eat things that are artificial?  Just because we’re not smart enough to figure out that the scary noise a toaster makes when it ejects the bread won’t hurt us, but chasing a squirrel across the street when the grain trucks are roaring up and down the road might actually cause us some harm, doesn’t mean we should have to eat artificial things, right?

Mama says the cookies are incredibly easy to make, and Peanie and I can vouch that they are incredibly tasty.  Here’s the recipe Mama found on eHow.

Peanut Butter Dog Treats

2 cups Flour
1 tbsp Baking Powder
1 cup Milk
1 cup Peanut Butter

Preheat oven to 350° F.  Combine all ingredients in a large bowl; mix well.  You may need to knead the dough a little if mixing by hand.

Roll dough out to 1/4″ thickness; cut with your favorite cookie cutter.  [Mama used a bunny because Easter is approaching ~ and because we like to chase bunnies...and because I'm a Toy Fox Terrorist...and I tewwowize all things.]

Bake for 20 minutes on a lightly greased cookie sheet.  Cool on a rack.  Store in air-tight container.  Makes approximately 5 dozen.

Mama wanted me to add a little disclaimer.  You see, I had to visit Dr. Missy on Tuesday to get all my boosters and to get my…er…’product’ examined for things that don’t belong there.  During my exam, Dr. Missy told Mama that I am a chunky monkey and I need to loose a pound and a half.  Mama proceeds to blame Daddy because he shares his ice cream with me after Mama goes to bed.

So, while Mama’s chatting with Dr. Missy while her front office staff is preparing our bill, Dr. Missy’s nurse comes up front and asks, “Has Abigail been eating peanuts?”  Doh!  Busted.  Mama giggles and explains that she’d just made us some peanut butter cookie treats the day before.  The nurse says, “Well, since we need to lose some weight, peanuts are probably not the best thing for us to eat since they are high in fat.”  Dr. Missy was in tears laughing, and I was in panic mode over the threat of having my cookies taken away.

I guess the moral of that disclaimer is that if you’re a little pudgy like me, your mama may not want to make these treats for you.  Either that, or just ask her not to make them with Extra Crunchy! peanut butter…especially the day before your doctor’s visit.  Sheesh!

Signing off until the next big scoop…

  1. Hi Abigail! My Mother told me about the cookies…since she puts peanut butter on my tongue and it sticks to the roof of my mouth, they would be alot easier to eat! I need to lose about 30 pounds…but my belly makes a good dust mop and plows a trail in the snow! I know my Beggin Strips are spendy and getting really small…but I am spoiled! Maybe even my cat sister will like them, too! Till later, you sure are cute!

  2. Abby, you can have your yummy in moderation, Darlin.
    I love and miss you

  3. I make the same cookies for Bo and Bella… I actually splurged and ordered a little “bone” shaped cookie cutter off of e-bay, but some times I get lazy and just cut ‘em into little squares. I bake them a little longer than directed because the dogs seem to prefer ‘em crunchy. They usually only get them when it’s time to be put in the outside kennel, so we call them kennel kookies~lol

  4. Ginny ~ Yes, that stinky Mon-kay likes my cookies, so your cat sister would probably enjoy them, too.

Aunt J ~ Thanks! When are you coming to see me again? I’d really like some French Fries, and Mama won’t give me any.

Ruth ~ Mama had mentioned possibly baking them a little longer, too. Since I can’t eat my food like a normal canine and have to inhale it like it’s my last meal, I sometimes need a drink to wash it down. I’ll see if Mama can put them back in the oven for a few more minutes. Thank you so much for visiting us, and tell Bo and Bella hello!

    Signing off…
