Ten Things In a Hodge Podge Give-Away

Posted By on March 29, 2011

Well, I didn’t think I would ever do it, but here I am ~ hosting a give-away on our blog.  I have been quite busy sorting through some of our belongings, and one thing has become starkly apparent to me.  We have a lot of them.  Belongings, I mean.

As I started sorting through drawers and cupboards, I started tossing carefully placing things into either a box earmarked for Goodwill, a couple of boxes for specific people, a pile on the counter for Husbie to take back to his office, and finally, a little pink basket.  The items in the little pink basket just didn’t seem to ‘belong’ in any of the other categories, but I didn’t know exactly what to do with them, either.

Then, I counted the items.  Because that’s what every normal person does with things they don’t know what to do with, right?  They count them.  Can you believe it?  There were ten!  Well, okay, there were nine, so I added the Reese’s.  Who doesn’t love chocolate and peanut butter?  [Just don't tell Darling Husbie, or he'll be wanting to know where the stash is!  If you tell, it will disqualify you from the drawing.  I don't like to play hardball.  I'm just sayin'.]

So, I am gathered here before you with this hodge podge of items, ready to send them off to you!  All items are either brand new or very gently used.  Be sure to click on the photo above so you can get a better view of these fabulous prizes cute trinkets and do-dads needing a new home.  Here’s a list of what you will get ~

1.  Nora Hernandez “Fishin Buddies” Print ~ Adorable print of a young boy and his dog done in subtle blues and greens and creative highlights in the boy’s face and hair.  Very cute!  Condition: New.  Still in factory wrapper.

2.  Manheim Steamroller “American Spirit” CD ~ ‘A collection of music about American culture.  There are pieces representing the beauty of our country, including the national parks, as well as some good old down home American humor.’  Condition: New.  Still in factory wrapper.

3.  Manheim Steamroller “Christmas: Sweet Memories” CD ~ Songs include ‘Good King Wenceslas’, ‘Joseph Dear Oh Joseph Mine’, ‘The First Noel’, and ‘Joy to the World’, along with several other special traditional Christmas songs.  Condition: New.  Still in factory wrapper.

4.  60-Sheet Magnetic List Pad ~ Stinkin’ cute black and white photo of two sleepy kittens cuddling together.  Pad is pink and white.  Condition: New.  Still in factory wrapper.

5.  3-Piece Cookie Cutter Set ~ Just in time for Easter cookies!  Metal cutters include a pink butterfly, yellow tulip, and purple bunny.  Condition: New.  Still in factory wrapper.

6.  Keepsake Scrapbook Kit ~ There’s actually two kits, but since they are so similar, I’m considering them one item in the hodge podge give-away.  The perfect fun way to capture someone special’s birthday.  The blue kit contains yellow stars and a variety of stickers.  The orange kit contains pink hearts and a variety of stickers.  Condition: New.  Still in factory wrapper.

7.  Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups ~ Need I say more?  Package of two.  Condition: Very gently used.  I only took a small bite out of one of the cups.

8.  Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “Sherlock Holmes: Two Complete Adventures” Mini Book ~ A very cute little book that is small enough to fit in your back pocket.  The two complete stories include ‘The Five Orange Pips’ and ‘The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle’.  Condition: Like new, or extremely gently used.  Actually, the book has never been read, but after years and years of being moved around from trinket box to shelf back to trinket box, the dust cover shows the ever-so-slightest wear on a couple corners.

9.  Bath & Body Works ‘Midnight Pomegranate’ Cooling Mist ~ A 4.75 oz can of pure nasal delight!  According to Bath & Body Works, it is a ‘fiery fruit and spice blend that conjures an image of rubies sparkling in moonlight.’  I don’t know about all that, but it does smell good.  Condition: New.  I only spritzed it once in the air to smell it.

10.  “Letters of a Woman Homesteader” by Elinore Pruitt Stewart Playaway Audio Book ~ This is, by far, my favorite thing in the entire hodge podge give-away.  [I just looked online to get a clearer synopsis of the story than my fang-dangled description, and saw that the retail value of this is $59.99!]  I absolutely loved, loved, loved this audio book.  Narrated by Kate Flemming, the story is a collection of letters written by Elinore Pruitt.  ‘After deciding that city life as a laundress  wasn’t for her, Elinore Pruitt, a young widowed mother, accepted an offer to assist with a ranch in Wyoming, work that she found exceedingly more rewarding.  In this delightful collection of letters, she describes these experiences to her former employer, Mrs. Coney.  Pruitt’s charming descriptions of work, travels, neighbors, animals, land and sky have an authentic feel.  The West comes alive, and everyday life becomes captivating.  Her writing is clear, witty, and entertaining.  The 26 letters are brief and tell about her life on the ranch in the early 1900s.  The author frequently and unnecessarily apologizes for being too wordy; she begs forgiveness for many “faults,” like being forgetful, ungrateful, inconsistent and indifferent, all without apparent cause.  On occasion, language reflects the racial prejudice of the time.  Many times, Pruitt attempts to portray the culturally diverse characters she meets by writing their various dialects as they sound.’  Condition: Very gently used.  While I’ve listened to the audio book, I am including a new pair of ear buds for your listening enjoyment..and sanitary relief.

So!  If you are interested in receiving this hodge podge of items, just leave us a comment before 11:59 p.m. CDST [is that specific enough?] Friday, April 1st.  No, this isn’t a joke.  How could I possibly joke about such a hodge podge of items?! We will randomly draw the lucky winner while enjoying our coffee Saturday morning.  The winner will be announced then, but be sure to privately include your email when leaving your comment so we can contact you…just in case you forget all about these fabulous prizes…er…yeah.

I’m still sorting, and will be until the pigs come home.  [Is that how that saying goes?]  Anyway, we still have a lot of ‘belongings’ to go through, so it is very likely the lucky winner will find a surprise or two when they receive the package.

And, while I’ve got you here ~ would you all be interested if I did this again?  As stated, there is still much to be gone through, and I would be tickled to put another basket of goodies together for another drawing.  If you’re interested, that is.  Go ahead and let us know in your comment!

Oh, just one more thing.  If you have a blog of your own and want to share the chance of winning this hodge podge give-away with your friends and family, feel free to share the link to this post with them so they can leave a comment.

PS ~ I am only kidding about the condition of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.  I was just making sure you were paying attention.

Good luck ~ and be sure to check back on Saturday to see who the winner is!

24 Hugs in response to “Ten Things In a Hodge Podge Give-Away”

  1. Dear J,
As I sympathized and chuckled at your tale and read over the list, each an every item found a place in my heart… well except the reeses that found its place in my tum.

I would gladly help you dispose of items from your many collections. I’m just sayin’…
    hugs
    m

  2. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO in! Because really, I need more stuff around here. ;)

As for the peanut butter cups, if I could find a way to bribe your hubby to get my name drawn (the audio book! the audio book!) I’d hand those Reese’s over to him, no problem. So I think you need to keep the rule, don’t you?

As for telling others about the drawing…that just decreases my chances. But I’ll do it, because I love you.

    Really, I do,
    -Laura at TenThingsFarm

  3. Thank you so much, Mel! For being willing to accept these fabulous prizes, I mean. Just think, as it stands right now, you are the winner! Heehee! You’re the only name in the drawing!

Love and hugs to you, Dearie.

  4. Okay. I see now that I’m going to have to hide the contents of the pink basket ~ when Husbie reads about the deal of the audio book for the Reese’s, he’ll be all over that! I don’t want the audio book…or the Reese’s, for that matter!…to disappear from the hodge podge give-away. Heehee!

Thanks for playing! ‘Cuz I love my twin.

  5. Buddie,
I think this is the best hodge podge of things, you are the best to want to share these things with your bloggers. I will be anxiously awaiting to see which one will win.
I don’t want to be in the pool for the winning,k?

  6. I would love to enter too. Thank you for doing a giveaway. That is very sweet of you.

    Eva

  7. Buddy? You mean you don’t want a chance to win these fabulous prizes?!

You’re in, Eva! Thanks for participating.

  8. Cat,
No fair I was going to offer to bribe J’s dh!
J,don’t look but I am offering your dh twice Cat’s offer as a bona fide bribe for that audio book and the room spray!
Thanks for doing this and I would love to get the chance to participate if you decide you have found some other lovely gifts looking for a good home!
    Love and God bless friend,
    Helen

  9. It’s cows, honey.

  10. Hey… I want to enter! I want to win the Manheim Steamroller albums most of all, a close second is the audio book, and the icing on the cake has to be the Reeses… but if I win, I’m holding you to secrecy… if teenagers find out where the stash is… I won’t get even a smidge!

  11. Hi Helen! Husbie’s upset because he didn’t know there was a Reese’s stash, so I’m sure he’s open to bribes…and sympathy. Heehee! The ‘room spray’ is actually body mist, but I suppose it certainly could be used as room spray. I mean, I spritzed it into the air to smell it, and the room smelled pretty.

Darling Husbie ~ oh, yes. Cows come home. It’s the pigs that fly, don’t they? Thanks, Lovie.

Grace Dear! I promise I won’t tell a single teenager their mom won a Reese’s. Heehee!

Good luck to all! Well, not you, Lovie. Members of the household getting purged cannot participate.

  12. count me in, though honestly one of those cd’s would be great……….you are more than welcome to keep the Reece’s Peanut Cups as it’s one thing I am not keen of……

    Gill

    Hugs!

  19. Thanks for the chance to win. I also found you via Ten Things Farm. The cd’s look awesome and yum yum chocolate.

  20. Now see here! Since I am your Mother…don’t you think I should have first chance of the pickings? Just kidding! If you get anymore creative…you will be very scary…where did you get that? I think Uncle Dudley should have the fishing guy…I would come to your free auction anytime! As you know, my walls and shed are not bulging at the seams! I could do with the Steamroller Spirit, Homesteader, pink basket of, who knows what, cause I have received many goodie boxes from you! The Midnite Mist would do me fine! Oh, yes, my phone with the answering machine, better not be in that collection…I am sure you haven’t forgotten! Sure am proud of you and love you so much!

  21. I’m in! Should be sorting my own drawers and cupboards, not trying for more goodies. Oh, well. :) Mine don’t have any Manheim Steamroller cds like those… and I know for sure there are no Reese’s in this house, because I searched last night! Thanks for such a lovely blog and giveaway! :)

  22. I have managed to find a couple of additional small items to include in the pink goody basket. I am getting so excited to find out who the winner is going to be!

Oh! I should mention that the pink basket isn’t part of the drawing. By popular request, there will be more Hodge Podge Give-Aways, so that will become the ‘Official Pink Basket.’ Anything that gets placed in that basket shall become a sacred piece of ju…er…a “fabulous prize!”

In case you’re wondering, I will be asking Little Big Brother (the 19-year old who is completely clueless about this give-away) to draw a piece of paper out of Husbie’s straw hat. He won’t even know what the piece of paper contains. That’s about as high-tech and official as I am, but as you can see, it will be completely unbiased.

Be sure to check back tomorrow to see who won!! Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  23. Laura at Ten Things Farm pointed me your way and I’m glad she did. Count me in for the drawing!

I think you were looking for ‘when the cows come home.’ The pig thing is ‘when pigs fly.’ But, hey …it’s your blog, your rules!

    : )

  24. This blog you have had going, and continue to get very creative with…I’ve become impressed, and am learning things along with your mother. You’re a sweetheart…and a natural maker of smiles. Keep it up!!! ” The gal from up the hill”
