My Daddy Got a Sock Monkey
Posted By FarmerJ on February 26, 2011
Several months ago now, Daddy made mention he wanted a sock monkey. A real sock monkey, with the big red lips and the big red…other end. Mama made note of it, like she does. She’s always paying attention, even if we think she isn’t. Yes, she made the note, and must have filed it away.
Months went by, which seems like years to me. Mama says letting enough time pass to make someone think you forgot all about something helps in the element of surprise ~ at least that’s what she says…probably to help ease the burden of guilt for not making Daddy his sock monkey sooner.
But, alas the sock monkey. Mama didn’t get to spend as much time as she would have liked creating this creature. She had to work on it in little bits of time while Daddy was at work or out in his shop, and in between all of her daily routines…and, of course, meeting my needs, of which there are many. I can’t be certain, but she may have gotten distracted a couple of times by watching a tear-jerker movie when she really should have been pulling thread with needle. Keep in mind I still have to rely on Mama to provide for my needs once this article is published, so I do need to be cautious when it comes to allegations, you know?
So, because Mama didn’t get to spend the appropriate amount of time it takes one to make a decent sock monkey, Daddy’s sock monkey has a few imperfections charming characteristics. His mouth may be sagging a little on one side. His eyes might be somewhat…er…cock-eyed. One ear hangs low. At least it doesn’t wobble to and fro. His arms may seem a little long in proportion to his legs, but hey, monkeys have long arms, don’t they? He does sport a cute nightcap. Mostly to distract from his elongated forehead.
Despite all that, he was made with love. And, boy, did I want him! Everything everywhere is made to be mine, don’t you know?! At least that’s my take on it. As you can see, mine’s a little worse for wear.
Daddy took him to work, though. He must have done that so I would have something to play with when I go visit him there. Yeah, that’s why. I’m sure of it.
Signing off until the next big scoop…

Abigail, if you make a big poopie, you’ll get a nice cookie.
love the story of the sock monkey.
It certainly was a silly little project. Sometimes those are the best kind, though.
I wonder if anyone has ever just worn that type of socks? We made ours into a sock kitty, hee hee.
I don’t know, Laura! It would be kind of fun to find out, wouldn’t it? Darling Husbie has a pair similar to those, but they lack the red heels…which is his favorite part. Heehee! I bet that sock kitty is cute!
How CUTE is that monkey! I’ll bet Ginny would make shreds of it in a hurry, you think?
I love your side boarder…wish it was flower time…we have one horrible blizzard going on! Suppose to be in the 40′o, ha-ha! Stay warm…I’m having a hard time!
Heehee! Thanks, Mom. I think Husbie liked it ~ he got a kick out of it. I’m sure it reminds him of just how goofy his wife is.
We’ll get you set up with some colorful backgrounds and photos over at the Blue Kettle. Not to worry!
