Every Bloomin’…Paper?

Posted By on February 9, 2011

Yes, you read that right ~ paper you actually plant, and it blooms.  It’s paper with seeds embedded in it.  I won’t create yet another blog post on the internet telling you how to make your own bloomin’ paper, but I will tell you why I’m making such a thing.  And, I will provide the links to the how-to blog posts that were originally shared with me.  After reading both methods, I sort of combined a little how-to from this one and a little how-not-to from that one, and met somewhere in the middle when creating my own bloomin’ paper.  [By the way, some of you received Christmas cards from us this year that had seed embedded embelishments on them (did you realize that?) ~ little did I know when I sent those out that I would soon be making my own.]

Oh, and I will tell you that my OCD was trying really hard to prevail during this craft.  I initially was tearing each piece of paper into the same shape and size before placing it into the blender.  Only to puree it to smithereens and back.  Then I came to my senses and just ripped willy-nilly.  I cannot tell you how freeing that was!

Now, the reason I pureed paper pieces in my blender ~ you should have seen the look on Darling Husbie’s face when he was trying to figure out just what his wife was feeding him for dinner tonight!  I was trying to be witty and think of something to tell him, but couldn’t come up with anything that I ever make for dinner that has the consistency of cottage cheese and is the color of Pepto Bismal.  So, I just told him I was pureeing paper and left it at that.  And, left my poor husband standing there completely famboozled.

Oh, yeah.  The reason behind it all.

I am sponsoring a table at our Quilt Guild’s “Dress the Bed” event next month.  “Dress the Bed” is a late afternoon luncheon.  There will literally be a bed set up in a banquet room, and it will be ‘dressed’ with quilts that our guild members have made.  It’s kind of like a glorified show-n-tell, if you will.

Each table sponsor is responsible for decorating and setting their own table, which will seat eight guests.  After searching around the ol’ barn house, I decided I would decorate my table as if the ladies were attending a tea party.  I figured a tea party would be something I could easily mesh with spring.  Lord knows by the time next month rolls around, we’ll all be ready for spring!

As a hostess, I am going to provide a hostess gift to each of my guests ~ actually, a gift bag.  I am hoping to be clever and resourceful enough, with a little…okay…a lot of help from my friends, to produce a gift bag full of all things tasty and cheery.  There is nothing more cheery than brightly colored flowers in the springtime.  So, to be clever, I made these little cards with the bloomin’ paper my guests can plant.  And, to be resourceful, each of my guests will also receive an entire packet of flower seeds in their gift bag.  You know, just in case the bloomin’ paper doesn’t…well, bloom.

So, that’s why I made my Husbie pepto colored cottage cheese for dinner tonight.

I do apologize for the quality, or lack thereof, of the photo.  It was taken late this evening under very poor lighting conditions.  I also apologize for the, again poor, quality of the shape of the bloomin’ paper flower.  It was cut late this evening under very anxious and impatient conditions.  I will likely claim a ‘do over’ tomorrow.  Just so you know I don’t hand out ugly flowers to my guests.

If you want to make your own bloomin’ paper, check out the blogs I’ve listed below, or simply search for ‘seed paper.’

Love to all,
