Treasured Traditions: Revisted…Again

Posted By on December 29, 2010

Can you believe another year has passed us by already?  Do you remember the Christmas tradition Darling Husbie and I have of getting special coffee mugs?  Well, it’s true.  Another year has flown by, and it flew so quickly, Husbie and I found ourselves doing our mug shopping on Christmas Eve.  Late Christmas Eve, at that!

Husbie has been saying for a couple of years now that we should get some chick-chicks.  Several of our friends have tried to convince me that we need some chick-chicks, too.  Okay!  Okay!  I finally broke down.  We got some chick-chicks!  Aren’t they cute?  Actually, these may be roos, yes?  See why it’s probably a good idea for me not to have real chick-chicks?

Anyway, I think these little mugs are quite fitting for the Farmstead, don’t you?  If our journey leads us away from here, these mugs will always be a fun reminder of our wonderful ~ very quick [it's that Nebraska Time Warp thing], but wonderful ~ years here.  Plus, we can use these cups throughout the year since they’re not Christmas specific.  Not that the coffee cup police have visited the ol’ barn house lately to issue citations, but still.  I’m just sayin’.

I’ll go ahead and show you the massive coffee vessels Husbie picked out, too.  These things are so big, that the two of them empty the entire pot of coffee on the first fill.

These guys have to go back to the store, though.  The one on the left has a huge crack all the way down the front of it.  We didn’t notice it in the store, but I could see it from the inside of the mug as soon as I got it wet while washing it.  They were the last two of their kind on the shelf, so there’s no exchanging the bad one.  And, we can’t have just one special mug.  So, they both have to go.  Which, as I look closely at the photo, is okay with me.  These nutcrackers look mean!  Don’t they?  I couldn’t possibly put these guys in the cupboard with the chick-chicks ~ I’d be afraid I’d come out in the morning to feathers flying all around!

What kind of special tradition(s) do you share with your beloved?

  1. I bet those look great in the coffee bar with lights Lol

  2. The chick-chicks do look great ~ except now the coffee bar has no lights. I dismantled it all this morning. But, the coffee bar does have a pretty dark blue glass candle holder on it now. Husbie hasn’t mentioned the lights disappearing yet…he’s been very occupied with a project for Little Big Brother’s car.

  3. Thanks for popping by J. I love your chicken mugs, very appropriate for the farm. I am enjoying your blog background, love the colour combinations, very country.

All the best to you all in 2011,

    Gill

  4. No lights? Say it isn’t so. Thought you were going to tack it up along the under side of the cabinet after x-mas?

  5. Love all the new backgrounds and buttons Buddie…

  6. Thanks, Gill. I decided to go with the Christmas Star quilt block theme for a little while. I thought it had a country feel to it, too ~ plus it feeds my new addiction to quilting. Heehee!

Wishing you and your family abundant blessings throughout the New Year!

  7. Yes, it’s true, Spark. No lights currently on the coffee bar. I’m still thinking about various ways to decorate that area…more to come.
