I Won a Prize!

Posted By on February 13, 2010

Can you believe it?!  Me ~ the one who never wins anything ~ actually won a prize!  And, honestly, the timing could not have been better if I had planned it this way.

This is my new adorable ironing board cover.  I know, I know.  Most of you are thinking that I really need to get off the farmstead more often if my extreme excitement over an ironing board cover is newsworthy.  But, seriously!  This week I’d been working on the master bedroom curtains, and while pressing the hems in place, I couldn’t help but notice how worn and tattered the cover on my ironing board was.  Then I realized why it’s in such pathetic condition ~ I’ve had it for 23 years…it’s five years older than Dominic!  So, I’d made a mental note that a new cover was in order.

So, Thursday night I attended my first Quilter’s Guild meeting as an official member.  [Yes, I'm going to start dabbling in quilting.  More on that later!]  I’d attended last month’s meeting as a guest of a good friend, and couldn’t wait for this month’s meeting to join.  I purchased 2 raffle tickets at $1.00 each, content that my contribution would help support the Guild fund.

Meeting up with my quilting partner in crime friend, we got in line for the Potato Bar ~ I know, we’re the rowdy girls.  We enjoyed our feast of baked potato and all the toppings you could possibly think of, and then the program started.  Part of the ‘order of business’ is the beloved raffle drawing.  The first prize was a fabulous book ~ all about quilting, of course ~ and the number called was 43269.  Nope.  Not me.  The second prize was this adorable ironing board cover.  I thought to myself, “How stinkin’ cute is that?!  I’ll have to find out who donated it and where she got it so that I could get me one,” remembering my ol’ worn and tattered one at home.  Then I heard 43274.  Glancing at my tickets at the slight chance I would have that number, I realized, “Hey!  That’s me!”  There was a third prize, but in all of my excitement, I don’t even know what it was, let alone what number was called.

This is the wide end.  It’s got all sorts of cute sewing-related graphics on it ~ the 3 goofy gals riding the iron, the pin cushion, spools of thread, scissors, safety pins, etc.  Stinkin’ cute, right?!

This is the narrow end of the cover, complete with instructions for me to try to figure out how to get this on my board.  The yellow stripe down the center?  That’s a ruler!  How handy will that be while I’m pressing the seams on all those quilting squares?  Really handy!

Now, are you ready for the adventurous part in all of this?  I can’t sew!  Heehee!  Trust me when I tell you this ~ I couldn’t sew a straight line if my life depended on it.  I tried earlier this week…on those master bedroom curtains.

So, if you’re lookin’ for some good, homemade comedy relief, be sure to check back as I’ll be openly sharing my sewing mishaps adventures.  I have a feeling my seam ripper is going to become my new best friend.  I think I shall name it Jack…

8 Hugs in response to “I Won a Prize!”

  1. Yay! On so many levels! I’m so happy you joined the group, so happy you won a prize, and so happy just because!

Funny, but we’re having ‘potato bar’ at next month’s quilt group meeting. We’re each supposed to bring a topping. :)

Also funny, I have a panel that I’m about to sew. Mine isn’t an ironing board cover – it’s an apron. We sure do have a lot in common!

  2. Thanks, Laura! Joining the Guild is something I’ve been contemplating doing for over a year now. My friend ~ she’s actually my ‘Nebraska Mom’ ~ has been encouraging me, and poking at me and bought me a table runner pattern for Christmas, 2008! She’s been (im)patiently waiting for me to take the plunge. Heehee!

Quite some time ago, I stopped being amazed at how closely the Lord has paralleled our paths. Now, I just smile from ear to ear and nod in agreement with His plan and thank Him for bringing you into my life.

An apron panel? Do show and tell!!

  3. that is just the cutest panel ever. I am going to forward this post onto my quilting store and see if they have seen anything like this, as it is just the best.

  4. Let me know whether your quilting store is able to get you one of these, Gill. If not, and if you really want one, I can pursue finding out who donated it and where they got it.

  5. J. can you find out some more info on the panel. Is there anything written on the selvedge of the panel, who makes it etc? if not would you ask whomever for me please? If I can find the manufacturer my local quilting store will order it in for me and everyone else.

  7. The panel is referred to as “Elinor’s Ironing Board Cover” by Daisy Kingdom, Inc. I’ve found some that have sold on eBay, but have not located any available at a store, whether actual or online ~ but then again, I only spent a few minutes looking.

Let me know if your fabric store is still unable to locate one for you. I’ll try to find out who donated the cover while I’m at next month’s Guild meeting and ask her where she got it if you haven’t located one by then, okay?!

  8. Helen! I am so happy to see you visit us! Thank you, Dear One. I’m glad you’ve been enjoying reading my ramblings and certainly hope you will be back soon and often.

    Prayers and hugs to you!
