Have you ever gone to your crisper drawer with a craving for a nice crispy stalk of celery only to find that, while you weren’t looking, the refrigerator gremlins transformed that crunchy cache into something that resembles a limp noodle? Well, have no fear ~ and don’t you dare go near that trashcan ~ because I’ve discovered a remedy that will turn your soggy celery into the friable fronds they once were!
This is just so incredibly easy. All you do is:
- Trim and cut the celery stalks, if desired, and place into a mixing bowl.
- Fill the bowl with cold tap water. If you would like to speed the process up, add a few ice cubes.
- Take a raw potato and rinse well to remove any dirt. Slice potato into 2 or 3 pieces, depending on the size.
- Place potato pieces in the mixing bowl with the celery. Set aside for approximately 30 minutes.
- Drain water, remove potato pieces and enjoy your wonderfully crisp celery!
Now, I’ve read that you can do this with several varieties of vegetables, but I’ve only tried it with celery. Let me know if you’ve ever tried this and have been successful with other veggies ~ or am I the only one that has refrigerator gremlins?

Great Tip… don’t forget to use your veggie peeler to make the great taste come out yummy.
I have done celery in cold/icy water, but I didn’t know about the potato. I’ll have to give that a try next time!
