Our First Snowfall Of the Season

SnowTrees

It was a record breaker, at that.  We received nearly four inches of snow this morning, which broke the previous record of a mere 0.8 on this date in 1987.  Great.  This could mean that it’s going to be a long, hard winter ~ or, this could mean that Mother Nature is getting this white flaky stuff out of her system early and the dead of winter won’t be so bad.  I can at least hope for the latter, right?

SnowTomatoes

Yesterday, it was a beautiful sunny day with temperatures reaching 60°.  The winds were calm and there was no hint whatsoever ~ except for the forecast ~ of what we’d wake up to this morning.  Above is what was once the tomato plants.

SnowOkra

These were the okra trees plants.  Darling Husbie pulled one of them out yesterday while we were bringing in the pumpkins.  I saw him pull it out.  He made it look easy, too.  I was surprised because the trunks are about three inches in diameter and I thought for sure they would take some tugging to get them out.  So, I come up behind Husbie and give one a good yank.  Uh, I gave it a harder yank.  Er…okay…I really yanked with all my might.  I should have known better.  Husbie always makes everything look so easy.  I think I’m going to have to get Kitty out there with a strap and pull them out that way!

SnowPumpkins

Here’s the Pile-O’-Pumpkins Husbie and I gathered in from the garden plot yesterday afternoon.  We covered them up with a blanket in an attempt to keep at least some of them from freezing.  We’d like to have some left for several of the little ones we know to be able to come pick out their own pumpkin.  There’s no room in the garage, or we would have put them in there.

Speaking of, it sure will be nice when my Darling Husbie gets a shop up again.  The poor man was trying to get some work done on the Jeep today.  Working on a snow-covered driveway just isn’t right.

SnowAbigail

And, Miss Abigail is not thrilled at all.  Yesterday, she was running around the grass like the wild woman she is, terrorizing grasshoppers and rustling in the corn stalks.  She seemed a little perplexed this morning as I was putting her winter coat on.  Any curiosity she had immediately diminished the instant she bolted out the front door to do her business ~ she skidded to a stop before she even reached the bricks.  She’s just not a happy camper!

SnowEvergreens

The little evergreen trees looked pretty, though.  Notice the field corn behind them?  (Our southern property line is in between the trees and the corn.)  It’s probably safe to say that the farmer whose corn this is may be as cranky about all this snow as Abigail.

A lot of it has already melted, though.  The sun came out this afternoon and despite being very brisk, it ended up being a pretty day.  Another complete deception of what is to come tomorrow!  Tomorrow’s forecast calls for ice pellets and freezing drizzle.

Is it too late to pray for an Indian Summer?!

  5. YUCK! That depresses me even more than I already am. I miss having you to bounce things off. Kids are making me nuts, no one ever told me it was going to be so HARD. I feel like beating my head against the wall, only because I know it will feel good when I stop.

  6. Stac! You know I am always here for you ~ I owe half (or more) of my sanity to you, Girl! Or, shall I be blaming my insanity on you, since you’ve rubbed off on me over the years? Heehee!

So, are you telling me that you haven’t had snow yet in that great state of yours? You’re supposed to be colder than us!

  7. They have had quite a bit of snow in the Upper Peninsula, but nothing in my area yet, thank God, I think waking up to that crap would send me over the edge and I’m already teetering there. I’ll fill you in on all that later.
