Our Summer Facial

Spring has come and gone ~ it seems it disappeared just as quickly as it arrived. The appearance of the Prairie Farmstead has changed a lot since spring. Everything is green and plush…and wet. The culprit? Storms like the one depicted in the header photo!
A few weeks ago, I was beginning to be concerned about keeping the garden watered enough. Now, not so concerned. Why? Because…
Record rainfall set at Grand Island, Nebraska last night…
Heavy rain fell at the Central Nebraska Regional Airport between midnight and 7 am. The total of 1.81 inches breaks the previous record of 1.30 inches set in 1942. While there remains a slight chance of showers for the remainder of today… little additional rainfall is likely.
This brings the total monthly rainfall to 7.81 inches, which is above normal for the month by 5.36 inches. This latest rainfall also took Grand Island into positive territory for yearly rainfall with 13.74 inches since January 1st. This is 1.35 inches above normal.
Darling Husbie snapped the photo currently in our header just after emerging from the storm shelter the evening of Wednesday, 17 July. This proved to be our most active tornadic storm thus far in the 2009 season. Very thankfully, we have continued to be blessed by being spared of any real damage from the storms.
