Monopoly Money Madness: March
Posted By FarmerJ on April 1, 2009
Somehow another month has slipped off the calendar, and this morning I found myself tallying the final figures of Monopoly money and finalizing the ‘goody list’ for March. I must have gotten caught up in the Nebraska Time Warp, because I swear I was just doing this a couple of weeks ago. Shaw!
Figures indicate I wasn’t as ‘mad’ this month with my Monopoly money ~ in fact, I’m quite a bit lower than last month. I can only chalk it up to that aforementioned time warp and simply not having enough time to get to the store. Gasp! Now that I think about it, that probably explains the feelings of great anxiety, the uncontrollable shaking, the night sweats and loss of sleep I’ve been experiencing lately.
I don’t recall any extraordinary shopping adventures this month, except that K-Mart did participate in Super Doubles for one week ~ meaning they doubled coupons with a face value up to $2.00…and they finally accept internet coupons. However, I broke one of my own most important rules ~ because I was short on time ~ and that was to hand over a wad of Monopoly money to the cashier to ring through in one transaction rather than to break my purchases up into smaller transactions so that the ‘spending’ of the Monopoly money can be monitored. The net result of my error was a loss of nearly $13.00 in Monopoly money. Now that’s complete madness!
Despite the Nebraska Time Warp and the fact that I broke my number one rule, for the month of March we ring in with:
- Total Number of Items for Free = 37
- Total Number of Items for $.01 – .50 = 12
- Total Amount of Rebates = 0
March Monopoly Money Savings = $111.13
Year-to-Date Monopoly Money Savings = $477.93
Cha-ching!

I can’t believe March is gone. Our winds have been howling, the dust is flying and temps are up and down. Spring Break for all of us was so nice. Hubbie was off all week, life is good! My family is coming in 20 days and I have been hitting some awesome deals at the stores. WOOOHOOO!!! My cereal stock is back up to 30 boxes and fruit bars total is 42. hehehe
You go, Girl! Gotta love those deals. Only 30 boxes of cereal? Why did you stop there? Heehee! I thought I was out of character the other day when I bought 7 boxes for .33 each ~ hadn’t purchased cereal since last September.
When Kenny was home last, I surprised even him at the grocery store with our total. It was a cart full. Almost so full that Nattie was going to have to walk. I could see on his face the annoyance, because it always seems like we were JUST there. As we were walking out I said, ‘Not bad, huh?’ He hadn’t a clue what I was talking about. So I told him to guess how much that trip was. His guess was somewhere around $150 or so. When I told him $52, he really was honestly shocked! (I kind of was too!)
Unfortunately, all the coupons I was getting in the mail have stopped coming
( I actually looked forward to what deals I was going to get that week but for some reason, they’re just not in the mail anymore. As you said J, our store doesn’t accept online coupons. Grr.
I’ve gotten to a point where it’s really hard for me to pay full price for anything anymore! lol It just doesn’t seem right when I know it’ll go on sale or that there is a coupon out there somewhere for it!!
I am definitely the same way about paying full price for groceries, Amber ~ I literally cringe when I really need to purchase something and it’s not on sale and I’m without a coupon to match. Oy!
Great going on your shopping excursion. I know it takes ‘work’ to walk out of a store with a full shopping cart having paid only $52 for it. Just yet another reason that hubby of yours should be proud of you!
