Monopoly Money Madness: February
Posted By FarmerJ on March 6, 2009
Here we are again with another month of madness wrapped up. I am thrilled to report that I have surpassed last month’s expenditures by quite a bit! Doesn’t it sound silly to be excited about the amount of expenditures I had? Not when it comes to Monopoly money ~ the more spent the better, in my book…pocketbook, that is!
February was a different kind of shopping month for me. I had several shopping adventures that were outside of my typical style of shopping ~ meaning that I bought a lot more ‘junk’ food than I normally do. Things like granola bars, Pop-Tarts and frozen pizzas found their way into the cart. I generally make those types of items from scratch for two reasons: one, I can make them healthier; and two, I can make them for less than I can buy them. Plus, homemade just tastes better.
Anyway, I caved into purchasing the junk food because of a special occasion ~ a 2,800 mile road trip…that, and my lack of better planning and preparation. I figured purchasing the snack bars and such to munch on while on the road would be much more economical than the alternative truck stop or drive-thru delicatessens. And it was, as proven by the $11 receipt for two Egg McMuffins and two large coffees we splurged on the morning of our final leg home. But, I digress.
Fortunately, I was blessed to have found some Monopoly money for the snack bars, Pop-Tarts and pizzas. To add to the blessing, my local grocery store had those particular items on sale, which helped ease the pain of buying junk food even more. Actually, it helped quite a bit. I paid $.50 per box of South Beach Snack Bars, $.67 per frozen pizza and $.68 per box of Pop-Tarts. Not too shabby for compulsive junk food purchases.
Alright, for the month of February we ring in with:
- Total Number of Items for Free = 45
- Total Number of Items for $.01 – .50 = 40
- Total Amount of Rebates = 0
February Monopoly Money Savings = $210.82
Year-to-Date Monopoly Money Savings = $366.80
Cha-ching!
